“Partnership Web Apps if you build it they will come field of dreams”
It’s October which means there is two things that are happening. One it’s Halloween and the other is The World Series for baseball! Baseball has always been key piece in American Culture just like a famous baseball movie, Field of Dreams. This is the movie with the famous quote “if you build it, they will come.”
If you aren’t familiar with the movie Field of Dreams, I will give you a short recap of the movie.
Field Of Dreams Recap
You start with Kevin Costner playing an Iowa farmer, named Ray, that happens to be hearing voices. These voices tell him “If you build it, they will come”. Ray interprets the voices to be telling him to build a baseball field in his corn field. So, Ray against everyone’s advice builds a baseball field. Then Miraculously, the 1919 Chicago White Sox come to play on his baseball field. There is more to it, but you should watch the movie.
Now you are wondering, how can the movie of Field of Dreams relate to marketing?
most people think about their marketing like the “Field of Dreams” baseball field. “If you build it, they will come”. I am here to tell you I see this far too often! Marketing doesn’t work like that. It involves a lot of moving pieces that are designed to grow your business. Which is work. Not build it and wait.
Billions of Websites
In Websites alone, there are OVER 1,925,615,150 websites out on the internet. RIGHT NOW and the number is constantly growing! If you don’t believe me, click here to see the number grow right before your eyes.
Now you may say that I am not competing with all 1.9 billion plus websites. I am just competing with the websites in my area that do what I do.
In a way, you are still competing with all of them, and competing field of dreams style with local businesses isn’t going to work either.
It’s tough to hear, but if you build it, they are still probably going to go to the guy down the street, unless you do something about it and that’s where true marketing comes in handy to grow your business.
So What Can You Do About It?
The next step is getting people there, that is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). What is SEO? SEO is the process to get your website to show up when you type in keywords in Google. There is a lot to it, but the first step is content, content, content. Write blogs, articles, publish videos, post pictures to your website, and if you can’t do that on your website, it is time for a website that you can.
Throughout this process always remember too that even after you “build it” your site and content must be userfriendly! Userfriendly meaning – Easy to navigate, easy on the eyes, and portrays a clear understanding of what it is you do. These 3 things are crucial to converting your traffic into customers.
Now of course there is a whole lot more to marketing but this will at least get you a start to grow your business.
