Being and entrepreneur in the holidays is exciting. The winter months bring the excitement of the holidays and spending time with family and friends. However; with freezing temperatures, the spread of colds and flu, and more time spent indoors, the winter months can also take a toll on your health and safety as an entrepreneur.

The Entrepreneur Guide To Good Health In the Holidays

Here are some tips to make sure you stay safe and healthy when the temperatures begin to fall.

Prepare Your Home

  • Install weather stripping, insulation, and storm windows to keep out the cold.
  • Have your heating unit serviced to make sure it is working properly.
  • Insulate water lines that run along the exterior walls of your home.
  • Have your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned.
  • Fully extinguish all flames before leaving the house or going to bed.
  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and check the batteries monthly.
  • Unplug devices such as space heaters and heating blankets before you go to sleep to reduce the risk of fires.
  • Apply salt to your driveway and any walkways leading to your home to reduce the risk of falls due to ice.

Prepare Your Car

  • Service the radiator and maintain an appropriate level of antifreeze.
  • Check the tread on your tires; install snow or all-weather tires if necessary.
  • Ensure that your windshield washer fluid is full, and use a winter formula.
  • Keep a winter emergency kit in your car that includes: a blanket, flashlight with extra batteries, water, food, jumper cables, flares, tire pump, bag of sand or cat litter, battery-operated radio, first aid kit, compass, maps, cell phone, portable charger
  • Keep your gas tank full.

Maintain Good Health

  • Wash your hands frequently to prevent the spread of colds and flu.
  • Take vitamin C and D supplements to boost your immune system and make up for the lack of sunlight experienced during the winter.
  • Drink herbal teas to stay healthy and ease depression and anxiety.
  • Eat a high protein breakfast to keep your energy up throughout the day.
  • Keep healthy snacks on hand.
  • Maintain an exercise routine. There are plenty of online resources for working out in the comfort of your own home.
  • Get out and about when you can. Take a walk and enjoy some fresh air and sunlight, or meet up with friends to boost your mood and prevent cabin fever.

As an entrepreneur we know how important it is to stay healthy because at the end of the day if you don’t work, then there is no bread on the table.
